Bose SoundTouch discontinued radio & preset settings

The official SoundTouch app and cloud service no longer offer the internet radio and presets many owners relied on. Bose has also locked preset updates on the speaker itself — the six physical buttons on SoundTouch 20/30 often show “Open SoundTouch app” instead of playing your stations. Newer Bose speakers use a different app (Bose app / Bose Music) — so a mixed home has been stuck with two ecosystems. If your speakers still respond on Wi‑Fi, TouchStream can offer an alternative with direct LAN control (no Bose cloud for your station list). TouchStream presets are saved in the TouchStream app, not on the device buttons. TouchStream is not a Bose service.

A universal network speaker controller — play, pause, volume, stations, and rooms for the brands you already own. Bose SoundTouch owners get a strong entry path after cloud radio ended; mixed homes get one grid instead of juggling several manufacturer apps. Perfect cross-brand sync where hardware allows; same-brand groups when you need the tightest timing.

Presets in the app — not on the Bose device

User presets in TouchStream (Settings → Presets) save station + speakers + volume on your phone or tablet for one-tap replay from the Player. They are not the same as programming the six hardware keys on a SoundTouch 30/20. After Bose end-of-life, many speakers no longer accept third-party preset updates on the device — pushing from any app may look successful in logs but the physical key still shows “Open SoundTouch app”. TouchStream does not restore Bose’s discontinued cloud presets on the speaker.

Internet radio

Add your own station list with logos and stream URLs. Play on one speaker or every room with one click.

App presets (not device buttons)

Save station + speakers + volume + sync as a named preset in TouchStream. Apply “morning news” or “evening jazz” from the Player — not via the speaker’s locked hardware keys.

Multi-room control

Turn rooms on or off, sync diagnostics, per-room volume, and fast power-off — for the speakers you already own on one LAN, without juggling separate manufacturer apps.

Play on phone or tablet

Stream the selected station on your phone or tablet — including Bluetooth speakers and headphones paired to the device. An in-app volume slider works like Wi‑Fi room controls. Away from home Wi‑Fi, playback can switch to the device automatically.

Podcasts

Search free shows in Settings → Podcast, pick episodes, play on speakers or on your device, and save as app presets. Optional Podcasts tab on the player.

Sleep timer

Stop speaker playback and phone audio after 15 minutes to 2 hours — handy for bedtime listening.

Local music & DLNA

Browse tracks on your NAS, play files on Bose and Sonos speakers, or send a stream to a DLNA TV on the same network.

The Bose app split

Two Bose apps.
One TouchStream.

Bose sold two speaker lines with separate control apps. After SoundTouch cloud support ended, many homes still have a mix of old and new Bose hardware — but no official way to run one station and one preset list everywhere.

Bluetooth speakers & headphones

TouchStream controls Bose and Sonos on your Wi‑Fi — not Bluetooth-only portables. For Bluetooth listening, use Play on this phone or Play on tablet: audio plays on the device and routes to any paired Bluetooth speaker or headphones, with lock-screen controls and an in-app volume slider. Many owners use a phone or tablet + portable BT speaker when away from their LAN multi-room setup.

Mixed Bose household?

Upgraded the living room to a Smart Soundbar but still have SoundTouch in the bedrooms? TouchStream Radio discovers speakers on your network, uses the SoundTouch API where available and the Bose app path where not — then gives you one player for stations, presets, and per-room volume.

* Bose Lifestyle Ultra may not sync 100% with other Bose speakers when used in multi-room playback. Sonos support: same internet-radio station alongside Bose, with per-room volume — cross-brand lip-sync is best-effort (tune in Settings → Sync).

Bose Ultra and other Bose smart speakers are supported on your LAN alongside classic SoundTouch hardware. Sonos is discovered on your Wi‑Fi alongside Bose via the speaker’s local network control interface (UPnP/SOAP on port 1400) — not via the official Sonos cloud APIs.

Classic SoundTouch line

SoundTouch 10 / 20 / 30, Portable (Wi‑Fi), Wave, SA-5, and Wireless Link adapter — the speakers the SoundTouch app was built for. Discovered automatically on your Wi‑Fi.

Bose app speakers

Home Speaker 300/500, Portable Smart Speaker, Smart Soundbars — the line that uses the Bose app (formerly Bose Music). Discovered and controlled on your LAN when the classic SoundTouch path is not present.

Sonos speakers

Era 300, Era 100, One, Beam, and other Sonos rooms discovered on your Wi‑Fi. TouchStream plays the same http:// radio URL alongside Bose rooms, with Bose / Sonos labels in Settings and on the player. Works with many S1 and S2 speakers as long as local UPnP access stays enabled.

Sonos Connection Security (UPnP)

TouchStream controls Sonos over the local network (UPnP/SOAP on port 1400) for playback, volume, grouping, and internet radio. It does not use the official Sonos cloud Control API. Because that local interface is not an officially supported public developer API, future Sonos software updates may change behavior.

Newer Sonos software includes Connection Security settings. UPnP is usually on by default; if you turn local UPnP access off, TouchStream (and similar LAN apps) can no longer discover or control those speakers. Keep UPnP / local control enabled in the Sonos app for TouchStream to work.

Not supported

SoundLink (Bluetooth only), untested Bose or Sonos models, and classic Lifestyle consoles with no LAN control path. Sonos portable speakers in Bluetooth-only mode, Sonos rooms with Connection Security / UPnP disabled, and Sonos features that need the official Sonos app (voice, streaming partners) are outside TouchStream. The new Lifestyle Ultra soundbar uses the Bose app — not a drop-in SoundTouch Wireless Link replacement.

Multi-brand control on your Wi‑Fi — volume, stations, presets, and rooms — without needing each manufacturer’s separate app (where your devices are supported).

Mixed multi-brand home

Different brands in different rooms? TouchStream picks the right local protocol per speaker — one station grid and one volume story for the whole LAN.

Beautiful station player

Radio cards with artwork, now playing metadata, song history, and play on one speaker or all at once.

Smart volume control

Per-room sliders when one Wi‑Fi speaker is on; master volume when two or more are playing. When you listen on your phone or tablet (including Bluetooth), a matching volume slider appears on the player. Volume lock stops accidental bumps on speaker rooms.

Preset manager (in the app)

Save station + speakers + volume + sync offsets in TouchStream — not on the Bose unit’s six hardware buttons (Bose has locked device preset updates on many SoundTouch models). Tap a saved preset from the Player for one-tap replay.

Multiroom sync

Diagnostics show in-sync, out-of-sync, or offline per speaker — including mixed Bose and Sonos. Re-sync all rooms, auto-tune Bose offsets, or nudge Sonos manually in Settings → Sync.

In-app settings

Manage stations, logos, stream URLs, speaker lists (Name=IP), timeouts, and sync defaults in the Android app Settings tabs (Setup, Stations, Podcast, Sync, Presets, DLNA). Presets here are app favorites — not programming the speaker’s physical preset keys.

Polished UI & tablets

Prestige, Glass, Aurora, Ember, Ocean, and Classic themes on Android (iOS to follow). Dark mode, power switch, and layouts tuned for phones and 7″+ tablets — full-width player, larger speakers controls, scaled headers, and Presets / Stations / Podcasts / Local Music tabs.

Play on this phone or tablet

Tap Play on this phone or Play on tablet below Now playing to hear the current station on the device — route audio to Bluetooth speakers or headphones paired to the phone/tablet, with lock-screen controls and an in-app volume slider. Off home Wi‑Fi, station and preset taps can route to the device automatically.

Sleep timer

Choose 15 minutes to 2 hours; when time is up, TouchStream stops speaker playback and any phone audio. Show or hide the chip under Settings → Setup → Player controls.

Local music & DLNA

Scan your network in Settings → DLNA, browse a NAS library from the Local Music tab, and play tracks on your network speakers. Optional Play on TV sends the stream to a DLNA renderer.

Podcast search & presets

Open Settings → Podcast to search free RSS shows (Podcast Index or optional Listen Notes), list episodes, and play on Wi‑Fi speakers or on your phone/tablet. Save a show as an app preset — latest episode each tap or one fixed episode. Double-click a station on the player Stations tab to add it to presets. Optional Podcasts tab on the player.

LINE-IN & turntable

Switch to analog AUX on SoundTouch speakers (including SA-5 multi-input amps), then optionally group line-in to other rooms — no audio streamed from the phone.

Wi‑Fi location profiles

Save speaker IPs per network (home, office, cabin). TouchStream restores the right room list when you join that Wi‑Fi again — stations and presets stay on the phone.

Up and running in three steps

Configure

On the same Wi‑Fi as your Bose units, open Settings → Setup and tap Find speakers on Wi‑Fi. Add stations, browse podcasts, or optional sync offsets in the other Settings tabs.

Common questions

No — use presets inside TouchStream, not on the device. Settings → Presets saves favorites on your phone or tablet (station + speakers + volume) for one-tap replay from the Player. That is separate from the six physical keys on SoundTouch 20/30. After Bose discontinued cloud radio, many units refuse third-party preset updates on the speaker; the display may still say “Open SoundTouch app” even when a push reports success. TouchStream can play your stations over the LAN — it does not unlock Bose’s hardware preset buttons. See What you get and the user manual.

Yes — for supported models. The official SoundTouch app only groups SoundTouch hardware; the Bose app only groups Bose smart speakers and soundbars. TouchStream discovers both on your LAN and plays your station list to any combination you turn on. Add each speaker by IP in Setup, then use one station grid and in-app preset list (not the speaker’s locked hardware buttons). Mixed multi-room sync can vary by model (especially Lifestyle Ultra*) — use sync diagnostics when rooms drift. See Two Bose apps, one TouchStream and compatible hardware.
